第二部分阅读(共两节,满分50分)

第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的ABCD四个选项中选出最佳选项。

A

Harry Potter fans are waiting for the arrival of the 2027 HBO TV series. Once it's released, the town Cornwall is likely to become a must-visit destination for Potterheads. So, if you're a die-hard fan, many of its scenic spots are worth a visit before the crowds pour in.

Looe is no stranger to filming crews. Looe, a filming location for the BBC series Beyond Paradise will instantly recognise. Looe has a charming Potter-themed shop, packed with Wizarding(魔法) World souvenirs.

Looe Beach, sitting in a sandy cove (海湾) with shallow spots for swimming, is often crowded with surfers and windsurfers. But for a more enjoyable swimming experience, head to the rocky cove of Talland Bay. It's also an ideal spot for a coastal walk, followed by a cup of tea in the beachfront cafe.

Cadgwith Cove, a fishing village that serves as a filming location for the Harry Potter TV show, has a traditional Cornish style, with small fishing boats on the beach bringing in local flavorful shellfood you can sample in a beachfront cafe. There's also a stony beach where you'll see kids with nets exploring the rock pools. Comfortable cottages and a quiet atmosphere make it a great escape from crowds in high season.

Kynance Cove, known for its white sands and green waters, has also been spotted in the show. John Lithgow, who plays Dumbledore in the Wizarding World, was recently used filming on the beach for the magical series. This area also has beautiful cliff-top walks and sea caves that can be explored at low tide (潮汐). However, visitors must be cautious when entering the caves: A sudden high tide may cut them off. Confirm tide schedules and follow warning signs.

21. What is the main purpose of the text?

A. To promote water sports in Cornwall.

B. To report on the filming progress of a TV series.

C. To compare different filming locations in Cornwall.

D. To recommend Potter-related tourist spots in Cornwall.

22. Which place is ideal for seafood tasting?

A. Looe Beach.          B. Talland Bay.

C. Cadgwith Cove.      D. Kynance Cove.

23. What suggestion is given to visitors to Kynance Cove?

A. Stay away from the film crews.

B. Avoid exploring rock pools.

C. Don’t dive into the green waters.

D. Don’t access sea caves casually.

Ramla Ali, Somali-born boxer, model and ambassador of United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), has spent her life fighting, first for survival, then for change. From escaping Somalia’s civil war to stepping into the Olympic ring, she’s turned her own story of struggle into a powerful mission to uplift others.

Following her brother’s death in the chaos of war, Ali and her family spent a year as refugees (难民) before resettling in London, where Ali chanced upon boxing. What began as a means to prevent herself from being bullied has matured into both a lifelong calling and a source of comfort and a passion. Her amateur career saw her claim England’s National, Great British, and 2019 African Zone Featherweight titles. In 2021 she made history as Somalia’s first Olympic boxer, a symbol of perseverance and determination.

Guided by the belief “You can’t be what you can’t see — if people witness my journey, they may dare to dream too”, Ali journeyed back to Kenya and visited the Dadaab refugee camp with UNICEF in 2025. She joined the Kasarani Sasa recycling group, a collective of over 200 refugee women waste pickers, helping sort plastic and cardboard. The program provides childcare, informal education for kids and safe income for struggling mothers. “Witnessing the things firsthand struck me. This could have been me, had I not left. It’s heartbreaking — you want to help everyone, but there’re so many,” Ali said.

At FilmAid Kenya, a learning program teaching the young displaced filmmaking and storytelling, Ali shared how education transformed her life with the students, many of whom dreamed of careers in medicine or psychology, despite hardships. Though moved by a teenager who desired to be a film director after her first exposure to a camera, Ali feared the program, a lifeline for refugee children’s dreams, was at risk from global aid cuts.

Deeply concerned about this, Ali partnered with UNICEF to provide sustained financial backing for refugee children’s education. Meanwhile, she’s expanded her free women’s boxing club worldwide. She said, “If my story can help just one girl see hope, my efforts will be fully worth it.” Ali’s power as a role model stimulates numerous disadvantaged youth’s ambition, lifting them out of despair and into dignity.

24. What initially drew Ramla Ali to boxing?

A. The desire for pleasure.        B. The influence of her brother.

C. The need for self-defense.      D. The pursuit of an athletic career.

25. Why did Ali return to Kenya in 2025?

A. To assist in garbage sorting.              B. To inspire refugee groups.

C. To expand boxing programs.             D. To check refugees' living conditions.

26. What was Ali’s major concern about the program FilmAid Kenya?

A. Funding.          B. Qualification.

C. Accessibility.       D. Equipment.

27. Which of the following best summarizes Ramla Ali’s life journey?

A. From chaos to order.              B. From a nobody to a champion.

C. From ignorance to wisdom.         D. From a refugee to an advocate.

C

Researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) have developed a rice-sized underwater tracking tag (装置), addressing a longstanding gap in studying small aquatic (水生的) species. The gap has blocked conservation efforts for decades, as tiny creatures often form the base of aquatic food webs but remain understudied due to technological limitations.

Biologists have long depended on radio and satellite tags, which revolutionized animal behavior research. Yet underwater tracking of minute species like the endangered delta smelt, a silvery fish about 2.5 inches long, is seriously restricted. Existing tags are too burdensome for their size and need large batteries to make up for the loss of signals in water — a medium that weakens both radio and high-frequency sound waves.

Directed by a critical scientific principle that tags should not exceed 2% of an animal’s body mass, PNNL targeted a weight of merely 0.002 ounces for smelt — ten times lighter than a pencil eraser and a quarter the weight of the lightest commercial alternative.

PNNL’s new technology combines two key things: micro-batteries that hold vast quantities of electric power and better-designed signal senders. With this, the tag can work for about 40 days — sufficient to track full river migration cycles — and its signal can be picked up from hundreds of meters away.

Scientists are already using this tag to study the young American shad, an endangered species threatened by dam construction, with plans to test it on delta smelt by next year. This tag will unlock insights into the small species that sustain entire ecosystems — and finally answer urgent questions about where they lay their eggs and migration routes — key to restoring their population amid pollution and habitat loss.

Nevertheless, certain issues remain unresolved. Small tags send signals at a higher frequency, but most of the current tools that receive these signals are made for bigger tags that use lower frequencies. However, progress in standards for underwater sound sensors gives a way to create corresponding monitoring systems.

28. What does “The gap” in paragraph 1 refer to?

A. Few aquatic species.           B. Little study on food webs.

C. Lack of conservation rules.     D. No proper underwater trackers.

29. What’s the distinct characteristic of the micro-batteries in PNNL’s new technology?

A. Long-lasting.           B. Solar-powered.

C. Water-resistant.         D. Cost-effective.

30. What does the author highlight in paragraph 5?

A. What species the tag targets.           B. How the tag can contribute.

C. Why aquatic species are conserved.     D. How tiny species go extinct.

31. What challenge are the researchers facing concerning the new tag at present?

A. Battery safety risks.               B. Signal reception mismatch.

C. Unstable radio signals.             D. Low positioning accuracy.

D

In New Jersey’s suburban intersections, an immature Cooper’s hawk () was at work. It was unfolding a novel hunting strategy that would astonish even seasoned ethologists, which was documented by University of Tennessee researcher Vladimir Dinetes in his study Street smarts: a remarkable adaptation in a city-wintering raptor (猛禽).

Over 18 freezing winter mornings, Dinetes observed from a parked vehicle as birds gathered on the sidewalk to eat food left by residents. In a nearby tree, a young hawk waited, listening, for a specific electric sound that signals it’s safe to cross the street. This high tone, tied to a red-light extension from 30 to 90 seconds, meant cars would stretch farther back along the block, forming a dense line. When that line reached a certain point, the hawk would launch an attack, flying low along the sidewalk, hidden by the line of waiting cars. Then it would slip, bursting into the birds’ feeding space and securing an exceptionally high hunting success rate.

Critically, the hawk held off on attacks on weekends when cars didn’t line up sufficiently long to provide a visual barrier. This selectivity proved no accident: The hawk had learned to link the signal sound, traffic patterns and hunting opportunities.

Cooper’s hawks, once restricted to deep woodlands, have inhabited North American cities since the 1970s, but only one urban-adapted behavior — hunting near sunset lights — was previously recorded. Dinetes’ finding adds a far more complex strategy, one that demands mapping environments, tracking time-based clues and carrying out plans.

Dinetes explains, “The hawk doesn’t evolve urban skills anew but uses pre-existing problem-solving ability meant for forest hunts where it measures flight angles and escape paths amid branches. Its forest hunting skill translates into viewing city traffic as branches and crosswalks as tree gaps. This cross-contextual thinking — where a biological instinct (本能) is adapted to an artificial landscape — is one of the hallmarks of intelligence in the animal kingdom.”

As cities grow, understanding how animals adapt will be crucial for conservation and coexistence strategies. The study highlights the interplay between wildlife and human environments.

32. What does the author primarily intend to tell us in paragraph 2?

A. The hawk excels at timing its hunts.

B. The residents take good care of birds.

C. The hawk likes to launch attacks at will.

D. Extended signal duration causes traffic jams.

33. Why did the hawk avoid its hunt on weekends?

A. Birds didn’t seek food then.

B. Traffic lights didn’t function.

C. Light traffic couldn’t offer enough cover.

D. Bystanders intervened its act.

34. What lesson can we learn from the hawk’s cross-contextual thinking?

A. Don’t follow others blindly.

B. The early bird catches the worm.

C. Use available resources strategically.

D. A patient heart eats the sweet fruit.

35. What kind of writing method is mainly used in the text?

A. Telling a story in time order.

B. Presenting a study with facts.

C. Arguing a view with an experiment.

D. Explaining a finding with data.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

Growing up in rural Pennsylvania, I spent countless days wandering in the woods, where I deeply felt nature’s capacity to heal (治愈).    36     Back then, I had no idea that the affection would guide my career — let alone inspire me to pen a book linking nature with therapy (疗法).

My professional journey into the practice of ecotherapy began when I was introduced to the book Ecopsychology: Restoring the Earth, Healing the Mind. After obtaining my professional certificate in this field, over the following 30 years, I ran a private practice and worked with clients, witnessing huge impacts of bringing nature into the therapeutic process.  37

Meanwhile, I saw a gap in traditional psychotherapy.   38    While research proved nature’s mental health benefits, clinicians lacked a practical ecotherapy guide. This mismatch led me to set about writing Prescribing Nature to bridge the gap and help them integrate nature-based approaches into their therapeutic toolboxes.

39   The Overview covers ecotherapy’s theories and research on nature’s effects. The Practice offers actionable steps: bringing nature indoors, outdoor therapy and nature prescriptions (处方). The Practical considerations address challenges like special populations, plus a chapter on climate sufferings that clients rarely mention. Every section is based on both scientific research and my own decades of clinical experience to ensure credibility.

Prescribing Nature targets mainstream clinicians in traditional settings.   40   Thus, more clinicians will be empowered to use ecotherapy and more people will benefit from nature’s incredible healing power.

A. It stayed restricted to indoor settings.

B. That fueled my resolve to share this approach.

C. The book focuses on digital interventions for anxiety.

D. Close contact with nature has strong restorative effects.

E. The experiences planted in my heart a seed of love for it.

F. I structured the book into three distinct sections for clarity.

G. I hope it’ll join the growing body of literature on ecopsychology.

第二节(满分25分)

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Mrs. Glover, an elderly lady in Virginia, often stared out of her window watching neighbors. This was her only joy after her four kids got married separately. They had their own families to care for and rarely contacted her. Being alone most of the year, she sometimes babysat for neighbors, which eased her loneliness a little. Watching other families was her best form of entertainment.

One day, a single mother named Sarah moved in with her five-year-old son Isaac. Mrs. Glover noticed Sarah used American Sign Language (ASL) with Isaac and realized the boy was deaf. Luckily, she learned ASL after befriending a deaf woman in college years ago. She visited them with a pie and offered to babysit anytime. Sarah thanked her warmly, and Isaac was surprised and happy that Mrs. Glover signed perfectly.

A few afternoons later, Mrs. Glover spotted Isaac sitting in front of his house, wearing only shorts and a thin shirt. It was already cold in early autumn and he was trembling and looking around, waiting. Mrs. Glover called Sarah but got no answer. Worried, she went over. Using ASL, she asked where Sarah was. Isaac signed that Sarah had gone to the bank hours before and he couldn’t reach his jacket, so he waited outside.

Mrs. Glover took Isaac home, wrapped him in a blanket and kept calling Sarah — still no reply. Two hours later when she rang Sarah up again, another woman answered.

“Good evening. I’m Nurse Martin. I’m only picking up because our patient, Sarah, came in through emergency,” stated the woman. Her words made Mrs. Glover rise to her feet in astonishment.

“What? Is Sarah alright? I’m her neighbor. She’s a single mom. Can you tell me what’s going on?” Mrs. Glover asked anxiously, her voice getting more panicked as she spoke.

“Sarah collapsed at the bank, probably owing to low blood pressure, and she hasn’t regained consciousness yet. We have no information about her, and we need someone to sign off on some tests,” the nurse explained.

注意:

1)续写词数应为 150 个左右;

2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

“I’ll be right there,” Mrs. Glover said and hung up.

Soon Sarah came to.
